Universal Rarity Scale
CONECA has officially adopted the Universal Rarity Scale
(URS), devised by Q. David Bowers, as the means by which we will
show degree of rarity for any given variety (see table below).
Through the years, many methods have been used to identify relative
rarity, but this one has taken the hobby by storm in recent years.
It is by far the most defined and adaptable system currently known.
By acting as a variety clearinghouse, CONECA will be able to assign
URS values with a great degree of accuracy. A word of caution is
necessary. We fully expect the URS figures given in our
attribution guides to change, sometimes dramatically, as interest in
varieties increase.
