Die Errors Spiked Head Die Crack CUD

This is the rare 1942 BIE die break cent.  Hundreds of these type die breaks were catalogued in the early days of the error/variety hobby.  There was even a club devoted to collecting them, The BIE Guild.  Changes in the design virtually eliminated this error type for a couple of decades.  Further design changes have caused them to begin occurring again in the 1990s.

This is one of the the latest known BIE type die breaks.  It is on a 1998 cent.  Maybe someone will start cataloging these error types again.  It is possible that collecting BIE type die breaks just might once again become the craze.
